A clean slate can be a great blessing. I've moved all my older deviations to an "Older Work" folder because I think I've gotten a lot better as an artist. I think I have a lot more respect for myself, which is hard when you're used to thinking there's millions of people better than you. But my animation teacher tells me, "There is no right or wrong. You draw the way you draw." And I believe that, and it's a beautiful sentiment, because now I can feel good about my work and remember that "getting better" as an artist really means I'm developing my own style. So I'm gonna commence my study of animation this semester through an Independent Study course. Oooo, talk about exciting. There's a lot to think about when it comes to software and technique, but I ain't scared. My original plan was to create a 27 minute animation for my thesis, but this semester I'll stick to making a 5 minute short while I learn what animation actually entails. The principles are simple, of course, but the execution takes a lifetime to master. I plan on at least comprehending the fundamentals within the next four months. Wish me luck.
